I work for a smaller structural engineering company in Winnipeg, Canada. Little bit of back ground so you can get the context behind my comments. I can go one for quite a while on this, but I think this is good enough to get started. This has actually lead us to modify all our Architectural walls to have the core elements set to actual masonry sizes. Autodesk, make it so when a view is set to Structural you can see the structural components in linked Architectural walls. the Architects and Structural designers/engineers have to collaborate so the nominal core components of the arch wall match the actual structural elements for any "Structural" walls. That structural component can not be easily split out.

The core piece of many arch walls is a structural component. others will only copy/monitor the levels and grids from the arch model, stop monitor the grid, and then start laying out there structural on top of the arch link.Įither way at some point the architects delete the structural columns, slab and structural floors from the arch model and rely on what is coming in from the structural link.

this leaves the content in the structural model and Structural can work from there placing/replacing content. as a quick way to get the basics in, then they stop monitoring everything but the levels.

some prefer to copy/monitor "structural" walls, columns, floors, etc.how that is done varies even within our own office. The architectural model is used to base the structural content on. For the most part, structural links the arch model into there structural model, made from a structural developed template.
